Christian Moody (33) gave Hale a lift in its final two games as he returned from an apparent season-ending knee injury, but the Eagles couldn't keep up with Cedarville Monday in a 71-52 regional semifinal loss.

Pinconning did its best to continue its giant-killing ways, but after going toe-to-toe with Flint Powers in the first half, the Chargers pulled away from the Spartans in the second for a 51-41 victory that ended Lucas Foco's (above) high school basketball career.

Ogemaw Heights won its second district title in three seasons Friday with a 65-46 victory over Standish-Sterling. The Panthers were within seven points before the Falcons closed the third quarter with a 22-6 run to take command. Ogemaw takes on Gladstone at Cheboygan on Monday. (Video highlights above)

Pinconning won its first district championship since 1986 on Friday with a 41-34 victory over Carrollton, celebrating the title on their new home floor. Next up: second-ranked Flint Powers at North Branch on Monday.

Ben Murphy

Hale had lost four straight district championship games heading into Friday's finale against Hillman, including two in overtime. The Tigers did their best to run that streak to five, but Hale held on for a 43-41 victory to earn a regional semifinal shot at Cedarville on Monday.

Underdogs Posen and Mio AuSable gave favorites Hale and Hillman a pair of district tournament scares on Wednesday. But Christian Mudry (above) and the Eagles recovered from a 10-point deficit to knock off the Thunderbolts, while Hillman held off a late charge by the Vikings. The North Star League co-champions will meet Friday for the third time this season with the district championship on the line.

AuGres-Sims gave Bay City All Saints a battle, but Kyle Boensch (above) and the Wolverines eventually fell 58-41 to the Cougars in a Class D semifinal on Wednesday. The district's other North Star League team, Arenac Eastern, also saw its season end with a loss to Saginaw Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

Justin Wejsa (above) and Ogemaw Heights held on to top Tawas Area in the second of two Class B semifinals at Ogemaw. The Falcons will take on Standish-Sterling in Friday's championship contest after the Panthers eliminated Gladwin from post-season play.

Tawas Area's Rachel Adaline scored 21 points, but the Braves, who led by 14 points midway through the third quarter, couldn't hold on against Kingsford. The Flivvers outscored Tawas 37-14 down the stretch to end the Braves' season 51-42.

Briana Dery and the Arenac Eastern girls fell behind early and never got clicking in Tuesday's regional semifinal against Deckerville, falling 49-35. The Eagles ended their best-ever season with a 21-2 mark.

Even the Pinconning faithful were wondering what fate was about to befall the Spartans as they hosted fifth-ranked Bridgeport for their first-ever home district tournament game. But in a game that will still be talked about in a generation, the Spartans bolted to a 21-6 lead - punctuated by Casey Pashak's breakaway dunk - then survived the Bearcats' inevitable comeback to pull off this year's first big upset, 50-43.
