Outlook: The Falcons hope to push back into title contention after slipping to fourth in the NEMC last season. The good news is that they return 12 players from last season's squad, Most of whom started or saw significant playing time.
One who graduated will be tough to replace: all-conference forward Alexsis Roach.
"Lexi will be tough to replace," says Ogemaw coach Jeff Young. "Her speed always made her a factor, and she was always drawing double-teams that opened things up for others.
"But we have a good group back, and we should not only be good for this year but for the future."
That group starts with senior sweeper Kate Friederichs, a fixture in the Falcons' backfield for four years. Senior forwards Lindsay VanOosten and Katie Killackey, as well as center midfielder Alicia Brown, will be the focal point of the offensive attack.
The team's lone junior, Jessica Killinger, returns in goal, while a sophomore quartet that impressed as freshmen -- Ashley Osterland, Cara Crawford and Emily Walker on the defensive end, and forward Kristi Killackey.
Also returning are seniors Sara Zettel, Micayla Morris and Kelly Moore.
"In theory, we should be in pretty good shape," Young says. "We'll just have to play them and see how it goes. The key is keeping our heads screwed on straight and just playing soccer. I think we have the potential to be pretty good." |
